Formal inauguration of the John McCloy Transatlantic Forum. Charles A. Kupchan, advisor of the Obama administration, gave the keynote address
On Friday, November 4, 2022, the John McCloy Transatlantic Forum was officially inaugurated before a full auditorium in the lecture hall of the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften. As a platform for dialogue with the public, the forum is closely linked to the interdisciplinary research project »Democratic Vistas. Reflections on the Atlantic World« based at the FKH, which is headed by the political scientist Gunther Hellmann and the American studies scholar Johannes Voelz.
The forum is named after John J. McCloy, who served as U.S. High Commissioner in Frankfurt from 1949 to 1952. In a moving speech, the now 85 year old son of the High Commissioner recalled his father's efforts to build up German civil society in the postwar period. The keynote address was given by the American political scientist and advisor of the Obama administration Charles A. Kupchan. It was entitled »The Liberal Anchor of the World To Come: The Enduring Strengths and Vulnerabilities of the West«.
