»On compromise«
About the workshop
The concept of compromise, both in its etymology and in its usage, refers to a social practice in which actors mutually and voluntarily agree on reciprocal concessions. However, when the presumed conflictual nature of social relations is particularly pronounced – as is currently the case, for example, under conditions of proliferating global challenges, intra-societal polarization, and even the fundamental contestation of »facts« – compromise becomes difficult or potentially »rotten.« The workshop will examine the challenges, promises and limits of building as well as refusing compromise from different disciplinary perspectives and in different fields.
