About the conference
The city of Bad Homburg and the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in cooperation with the Excellence Cluster »The Formation of Normative Orders« and the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies warmly invite interested citizens and students to attend this year’s Bad Homburg Conference, which will be devoted to the topic »Artificial Intelligence – How Can We Trust Algorithms?«. The focus will be on the use of artificial intelligence in sensitive areas of life in which we already see the implementation of AI - health, security and finance. International experts from the areas of academia, technology and industry will participate in a panel discussion about the influence that algorithms already exert on our decisions and evaluations, how this will develop in the future and which opportunities and risks are involved. Ultimately, the overarching question will be how the use of AI is changing our lives and society and what we can do to shape our future.
The conference will be opened by the Hessian Minister for Digital Strategy and Development, Kristina Sinemus, among other people. The keynote address on the first evening will be held by Thomas Lippert, a computer scientist from the Forschungszentrum Jülich. This will be followed by a discussion of the current insights and perspectives by Chris Boos, an AI entrepreneur from Frankfurt am Main and member of the German federal government’s Digital Council; Wolf Singer, a neuroscientist from Frankfurt am Main; and Mutale Nkonde, an American scholar, political consultant and activist from New York, among others.
The language of the conference is German.

Participation in the Bad Homburg Conference 2019 is free of charge. For organizational purposes and due to limited seating, we kindly ask you to register by Monday, September 16, 2019. You will be required to show confirmation of your registration in order to gain entrance to the conference.
Thursday, 19.09.2019, 7:00 p.m., first day of the conference with a lecture by Thomas Lippert
Friday, 20.09.2019, 11:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., second day of the conference (incl. a midday snack)
Saturday, 21.09.2019, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., third day of the conference with a closing discussion by Chris Boos, Mutale Nkonde, Wolf Singer, etc.
About the Bad Homburger Conferences
The Bad Homburg Conferences are organized cooperatively by the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften of Goethe University and the city of Bad Homburg. They began in 2017 and will take place initially once a year over a period of five years every fall at the Kolleg in Bad Homburg. They offer a public forum for reflection on today’s important social questions with the aim of providing ideas and insights for shaping our future.
