Constanze Stelzenmüller delivers third John McCloy Lecture
On April 16, 2024, Constanze Stelzenmüller, Director of the Center on the United States and Europe and holder of the Fritz Stern Chair at the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C., gave the third John McCloy Lecture.
In her lecture entitled »Flirt mit der Diktatur? US-Präsidentschaftswahlen im Krisenjahr 2024« she spoke about the historical significance of the upcoming US elections - for peace in the world, for American society and for German-American relations. The scenario is frightening. But perhaps, according to Stelzenmüller, the election could also lead to a renaissance of American democracy. It is important to re-establish the values of a free, democratic world in society and to stand up for them at all levels of social and political life.
The event was hosted by the John McCloy Transatlantic Forum, which was founded at Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in November 2022.
