Ketevan Gurchiani receives funding for a research project on urban spacesGurchiani’s project »Tiblisi as Urban Assemblage« will be funded for three years by the Georgian Rustaveli National Science Foundation
Ketevan Gurchiani, a cultural studies scholar from Georgia, has received approval from the Rustaveli National Science Foundation for three years of funding beginning in 2020 for her ethnographic study of urban spaces in the 20th and 21st centuries. In her project entitled »Tiblisi as Urban Assemblage«, she will use the example of Tiflis to examine the interplay of the human and the non-human, infrastructure and nature, the official and the non-official and the public and the private in urban spaces. She will focus in particular on two fields: 1. the live-worlds and the infrastructure of Tiflis and 2. the landscape: the domesticated and non-domesticated nature of urban spaces.
Ketevan Gurchiani is a professor of cultural studies and religion at the Ilia State University in Tiflis, Georgia. She was a Fellow at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in the summer of 2019 at the invitation of Professor Isabell Diehm from Goethe University and the LOEWE research group »Religious Positioning. Modalities and Constellations in Jewish, Christian and Islamic Contexts«.
