Laure Gillot-Assayag Postdoctoral Fellow Aufenthalt am Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften: Januar – September 2026Forschungsthema am Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften: »Parliamentary Ethics, or the Varieties of Republicanism in the EU and US« Projektbeschreibung: This postdoctoral research aims to examine the transatlantic development of normative criteria for parliamentary deontology, using a comparative approach between the EU institutions and the US Congress. The research aims to answer critical questions about ethical norms in politics, identify similarities and differences between the EU and US’ ethics committees, and assess political ethics’ procedures and institutional designs in both contexts. My main hypothesis is that the transatlantic demand for political ethics is a contemporary resurgence of republicanism. Disagreements on parliamentary ethics from political groups reflect differing interpretations of this intellectual tradition – whether as a rule of law, civic virtue, or non-domination. Building on prior research on compromise in partisan environments, this project will combine theoretical and empirical perspectives, linking philosophy, political science, political theory, history and legal studies. Wissenschaftliches Profil von Laure Gillot-AssayagLaure Gillot-Assayag hat 2025 im Fach Politikwissenschaften an der Écoles des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris mit einer Arbeit über die Ethik des Kompromisses in Demokratien promoviert. Zuvor hat sie vier Masterstudiengänge mit Abschluss absolviert in Politischer Philosophie (Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne), Amerikanischer Geschichte (Sciences Po Paris), transnationalen Studien (ENS-Ulm) und internationalem und europäischen Recht (Université de Nantes). Studienstipendien führten sie an die UC Berkeley (Fulbright Scholar) und die Columbia University (Alliance Scholar). In ihrer Forschung untersucht sie demokratische Normen und politische Praktiken aus einer interdisziplinären und transatlantischen Perspektive. Dabei fließen die Erfahrungen und Beobachtungen mit ein, die sie im Kontext von Tätigkeiten im amerikanischen Kongress und im Europäischen Parlament gemacht hat. 2025 wurde sie mit dem Excellence Award at the Fonds Ricœur’s Summer Workshop ausgezeichnet.Website: Veröffentlichungen (Auswahl):
