He has been the Martin-Buber-Professor for Jewish religious philosophy at Goethe University Frankfurt since 2010. His research interests include the Jewish religious philosophy of the early modern period, German-Jewish and European-Jewish intellectual and cultural history as well as Jewish-Christian relations. He has been head of the LOEWE Research Initiative funded by the state of Hessen entitled »Religious Positioning: Modalities and Constellations in Jewish, Islamic and Christian Contexts« since 2017.
