Interreligious exchange
A microcosm of understanding
In February, religious leaders from Israel representing Judaism, Islam, and Christianity came together at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften to discuss the future of Israel and Palestine and a new relationship between religion and politics. The discussions continued at various locations in Israel.

On the initiative of a research group from Tel Aviv University, religious leaders from Israel came together at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften at Goethe University Frankfurt for an interreligious conference from February 4-6, 2024. Forming a unique constellation, representatives of different currents within Judaism, Islam, and Christianity met to discuss the future of Israel and Palestine and a new relationship between religion and politics. The common goal of the discussions was to gain a renewed understanding of the principles of the liberal constitutional state from the deep sources of religious traditions, making the concepts Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity newly relevant for Israeli civil society and politics.

Tel Aviv University is a close partner of Goethe University. In 2022 the two universities founded the joint »Center for the Study of Religious and Interreligious Dynamics«, which participated in organizing this conference at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften.

The talks that began at the Forschungskolleg have since been continued in Israel. The high-level interreligious group meets at regular intervals at various locations in the country, each time at the invitation of a different religious community. By its ongoing exchange, the group hopes to contribute to interfaith understanding in Israel.
