Contemporary societies are in flux. In sociology, the simultaneous rise of individual opportunities and risks is emphasized against the background of educational expansion, increased labour market flexibility, mass migration, claims of gender equality and the individualization of welfare benefits. In political science, a crisis metaphor prevails: at best, representative democracy is in severe crisis, if not already in a state of post-democracy. The speed and depth of these changes disrupt existing systems of resource allocation and interest representation, challenge the legitimacy of existing social structures and bring new conflicts to the surface. How do individuals, groups and organizations react, adapt and renew under the conditions of current social change? We bring together scholars from sociology and political science who share an interest in the macro-micro-links of social change, a dedication to rigorous empirical methods and a commitment to interdisciplinary research.

Wissenschaftliches Profil

Die 2006 an der Universität Bamberg promovierte Soziologin Daniela Grunow ist seit 2013 Professorin für Soziologie mit dem Schwerpunkt quantitative Analysen gesellschaftlichen Wandels an der Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main. Ihre Forschung und Lehre konzentrieren sich thematisch auf die Wechselwirkungen von Arbeitsmarkt, Hausarbeit und Geschlechterbeziehungen in verschiedenen Wohlfahrtsstaaten aus der Perspektive des Lebensverlaufs. Von 2011‒2016 leitete sie das vom Europäischen Forschungsrat (ERC) geförderte Programm »APPARENT ‒ Transition to parenthood«, das Veränderungen der Arbeitsteilung von Frauen und Männern beim Übergang zur Elternschaft international vergleichend untersucht.
